Bead Soup Blog Party...Soup is On!!

Welcome to the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party coordinated by Lori Anderson of Pretty Things!
First things first, thank you so much, Lori, for coordinating this Bead Soup Blog Party.

Hmm, a what? What is a Bead Soup Blog Party, you ask?

Well, each beader was paired up with another jewelry designer and tasked with sending the following:
~ A focal
~ A special clasp (not just a lobster claw)
~ Some coordinating spacers or beads
Using the focal and the clasp was mandatory, but we could use anything from our own stash to round out the rest, and choose to use the coordinating beads or not.

Here's what I made!

My partner was Charlene over at GrayGirlStudios. She sent me this great pendant and several beads. Many of which you see here. I did hoard a few for future beading. :) It's funny...Charlene and I must've been on the same wavelength because the colors of beads that we sent each other to use were very similar.

I named this piece Day At the Lake. :) My initial inspiration for the piece came from the pendant. When I look at it, literally I see earth and water. And many of the beads Charlene sent me supported that theme. I added two silver fish beads and some other glass beads from my stash. The dragonfly is a brad that I cut the back off of. I thought twice about using him because I also sent one to Charlene to possibly use in her design but it really added a whimiscal feel to the necklace. And the toggle is very nautical, don't cha think?

So, all of the components in this necklace are things and colors that one would see while sunning out at the lake. :) But that's just my interpretation...what does the pendant make you think of?
Now, come check out what everyone else made!

This pendant makes me think of my stepmum's garden in the backyard when I was a kid, when she would decorate it with glass pastel dragonflies and butterflies, and antique farming tools from my grandparents' old house. We would plant chives and make potato salad every weekend, sprinkling freshly washed and chopped chives from our own garden when we barbecued in the backyard. Those were great summers!
